OKS Clamp-on Buffer Transducer
The OKS clamp-on buffer transducer overcomes the problems of traditional clamp-on methods at very high or very low temperatures. Traditionally, temperature extremes caused the piezoelectric element within a transducer to become damaged, loosening its acoustic properties. Through extensive research, we developed a means to isolate the piezoelement of the transducer at the end of a long buffer rod. The buffer rod keeps the transducer at approximately ambient temperature, eliminating any possibility of failure due to temperature damage.
The OKS buffer is a solid waveguide that resembles an ice hockey stick. It very effectively conveys ultrasound into the pipe wall to which it is attached. Since the transducers clamp onto existing piping, installation is relatively easy, and there is no need to shut down the process. Typical applications are superheated water, cryogenic liquefied natural gas, and hot hydrocarbon liquids.
